Clayton County 4-H Honors Youth & Adults at Annual Pizzazz Night
Over 360 people attended the annual 4-H Pizzazz Night on Sunday, November 18 at Johnson’s Reception Hall in Elkader. The year-end celebration honored both 4-H club members and adult volunteers.
Club Community Service Awards were presented to the Mallory Minks, Garnavillo Hawks, Arlington Achievers and Monona Jr. Feeders 4-H Clubs. These clubs were selected for their not only for their monetary donations, but also for their volunteer service.
The Woodcenter Eagles 4-H Club won the award for best 4-H Week Promotion during the month of October.
The Meritorious Service Award was presented to Luana Savings Bank of Luana. Joe Connor of Farmersburg was named this year’s Honorary 4-H Member and Jerry Maker of Strawberry Point was honored as the 4-H Alumni member.
Awards of Clover were presented to dedicated 4-H leaders and volunteers who have served 5, 10, and 15 years. Honored for 5 years were Melissa Miene and Trent Miene of the Monona Jr. Feeders; Jayne Jones and Rocky Jones of the Lodomillo Leaders; Tim Orr of the Marion Happy Hustlers; Sandy Franks of the Worthwhile 4-H Club; Susan Meyer of the Peppy Pointers; Matthew Gaul 4-H Foundation Board and Lodomillo Leaders; Dawn Amundson, Jay Farmer and Jerry Farmer as Shooting Sports instructors. Honored for 10 years were Marvin Althoff & Robin Althoff of the Jefferson Go Hawks; Beth Henkes & Daryl Henkes of the Monona Jr. Feeders; Joe Vlazny of the St. Olaf Jr. Farmers; Trent Henkes & Leslie Henkes, 4-H Foundation Board. Mary Fisher of the Woodcenter Eagles and Debbie Moose, dog project leader were honored for 15 years of volunteering to the 4-H program.
Intermediate and senior 4-H members competed for project awards. Food & Nutrition award winners were Emily Moon of the Monona Jr. Feeders and Emma Kerns of the Woodcenter Eagles. Amanda Meyers of the Highland Helping Hands received a Communications award.
Three special awards were given to 4-H’ers who scored well on their award applications and interviews. Amanda Meyers, Volga; Emma Kerns, Edgewood; and Rachel Moser of Colesburg each received a $50 voucher to the 2013 State 4-H Conference & Animal Science Roundup.
The Danforth awards were presented to Amanda Meyers, daughter of Dave & Julie Meyers of Volga and Rachel Moser, daughter of Doug & Jan Moser of Colesburg. The Danforth “I Dare Your Award” is a special leadership award presented each year to high school students who show leadership potential.
Club Officer Awardswere presented to Patrick Palmersheim, President of the Lodomilllo Leaders, Tiffany Faust, Vice-President of the Lodomillo Leaders, Jacob Wessel, Treasurer of the Mallory Minks, Andrea Glawe, Secretary of Peppy Pals/Mendon Hustlers, Ryan Moon, Secretary of Monona Jr. Feeders and Jordyn Bolinger, Reporter of the Woodcenter Eagles.
Evelyn Possehl Memorial Quilt Award: Kaitlin Orr of the Marion Happy Hustlers 4-H Club for her pink & purple snow dyed quilt.
Josephine Orr Outstanding Pie Award: Madalyn Boehm of Marion Happy Hustlers 4-H Club for her Peach Berry Pie.
Donlon Outstanding Bread Award: Madalyn Kerns of the Woodcenter Eagles 4-H Club for her simple whole wheat bread.

The Collin Harbaugh Memorial honored the top junior record keeping members. The award givenBrian & Koral Harbaugh in memory of their son Collin provides youth with the opportunity to attend either the area junior or intermediate camp next summer. Top junior record keeping honors went to Parker Klingman, Luke Tuecke and Levi Tuecke of the Worthwhile 4-H Club and Daniel Vorwald of the Mallory Minks.
Participants in the county 4-H dairy judging team were also recognized. Honored were
Jake Mills, Strawberry Point; Gina Fisher, Edgewood, Zach Sauer, Catie Lang, Nolin Lang & Bobby Lang, McGregor; Tom Shirbroun and Andrey ShirbrounFarmersburg. Trent Henkes and Larry Landsgard are the team coaches.
Participants in the4-H Crops Scouting Team were Joe Kann, and Kayla Otto of Guttenberg; Sam Hilgerson, Elkader; Nick Boehm, Elgin and Ben Wikner, Farmersburg. Joe & Suzanne Shirbroun serve as coaches for the team.
