On May 8 Central Elkader 4th graders and Decorah 3rd graders visited the NICC campus in Calmar to take part in Iowa’s Dairy Story. Iowa’s Dairy Story is an Iowa State University Extension, Northeast Iowa Community College and the NE Iowa Dairy Foundation collaboration for youth in grades 3, 4, & 5. The field trip included a Tour of the Hall of Breed, and a map display of Iowa and the United States, exploring the dairy history, dairy cows and nutrition and science through a Milk Cart Quiz, discovering how milk produced in northeast Iowa goes from the farm to your home, learning about nutritional products and their importance to growth and development. The youth made and ate a milk treat – ice cream, see what a cow eats each day and tour the stomach of the dairy cow. Iowa's Dairy Story Photos
