Clayton County 4-H and FFA members enrolled a total of 54 lambs and 43 meat goats at the weigh-in held  May 10 at the fairgrounds in National.  These lambs and meat goats are now eligible to compete in the market show at the Clayton County Fair on August 1, 2008.   Daily rate-of-gain will be determined on the lambs and goats.  This will be used in the evaluation of the project by the judge at the fair.

There were sixteen 4-H’ers and FFA members who tagged market lambs this year.  This is up 2 exhibitors and 4 lambs from last year.  This was the first year that Clayton County required meat goats to have a starting weigh.  Fifteen youth participated in the goat weigh-in.

20 of the 54 lambs were also verified to exhibit at the Iowa State Fair in August.   Retinal imaging was used to identify these lambs.
