08 Clover Kid Day

Clayton County Extension hosted a Clover Kid fun day for K-3rd grade students on Saturday, February 23 at Johnson's Reception Hall in Elkader. 85 youth enjoyed a fun and educational county fair themed day.

The day started with carnival games. Then 10 activity stations were set up and the children rotated by groups to each. The students made a clay pot bell at the arts & craft booth. Everyone learned about auctioneering at the county fair auction booth. In the sheep barn the youth learned about lambs and have to opportunity to pet a live lamb. Live entertainment was the activity on the stage.  The Clayton County Beef Queen, Marcy Amundson and Beef Princess Courtney Hefner talked about the beef industry and helped the children create a cow out of a paper plate.  During the lunch hour everyone was entertained by a clown. Games were played at the carnival.  In the dairy barn the Clayton County Dairy Princess Leah Henkes read a story and talked about the importance of dairy products in your diet. At the rabbit hutch the children made bunny ears and had the opportunity to hold a live rabbit. In the Swine arena Clayton County Pork Queen Kimberly Connor talked about the swine industry and the youth made a paper bag pig puppet.  At the "tractor Pull" the children took turns driving the toy tractor. The afternoon ended with more games and music.
