Livestock producers with an interest in beginning or transitioning grazing practices can sharpen their skills by attending Greenhorn Grazing workshops offered by Iowa State University Extension. The Greenhorn Grazing short course consists of five different modules taught over the grazing season.

“Greenhorn Grazing is designed for graziers interested in a more controlled or management-intensive grazing system,” said Denise Schwab, ISU Extension livestock specialist. “Producers who want to optimize forage and livestock production, increase market access and conserve natural resources will find the modules very informative.”

Clayton County 4-H and FFA members enrolled a total of 53 lambs and 51 meat goats at the weigh-in held May 9  at the fairgrounds in National.  These lambs and meat goats are now eligible to compete in the market show at the Clayton County Fair on August 7, 2015.   Daily rate-of-gain will be determined on the lambs and goats.  This will be used in the evaluation of the project by the judge at the fair.

Avian influenza is caused by an influenza virus that can infect poultry, such as chickens, turkeys, domestic ducks and geese, and is carried by migratory birds such as ducks, geese and shorebirds.  It does not impact the foods that consumers eat.   ISU Extension and Outreach has resources to help producers and consumers.

30 Clayton County 4-H and FFA members weighed in 184 head for the 2015 swine derby show at the Clayton County Fair. This county fair competition uses the rate-of-gain and lean-gain-per-day along with visual appraisal by the judge for evaluation. The 2015 Clayton County Fair Swine Show will be Saturday, August 8.
