Pork Producers Hold Annual Banquet

Clayton County Pork Producers’ Banquet was held Saturday, September 26 at Johnson’s Reception Hall in Elkader. A dinner of pork loin, baked potato, green bean casserole, lettuce salad, roll, beverage and ice cream was served prior to the program. Door prizes and hams provided by the associate members and Clayton Co. Pork Producers Association were given away throughout the evening.

Clayton County 4-H’ers Place 3rd in Livestock Judging Contest

With the addition of a junior 4-H division, 106 4-H’ers -- a new record -- participated in the Livestock and Meats Judging Contests on August 29 in Ames. Clayton County finished third in the junior division. Team members included Nick Boehm, Keaton Lane, Kenny Orr and Luke Orr. Kenny Orr placed 2nd overall individually in the junior contest.

County Dairy Judging Teams Do Well at State Contest

Nine youth from Clayton County participated in the state dairy judging contest on August 12 at the Iowa State Fair. A senior dairy judging team consisting of Gina Fisher, Monica Landsgard and Jake Mills placed second and in the junior division the team of Tyler Fisher and Catie & Bobby Lang placed fourth overall.

Safety Day Held May 8

The Clayton County Extension Service hosted a Safety Day on May 8th at the Clayton County Fairground in National. 244 fourth grade students from Elkader Central, MFL MarMac, Clayton Ridge, Ed-Co, Valley, and Postville schools attended the daylong event.

Ground Breaking Ceremony Held at Fairgrounds for New Barn

Members of the Jim Hosch family, the executive committee of the Clayton County Fairboard and the building contractor broke ground on October 15 for the James Hosch Arena. The new facility will be 60' x 200' and is scheduled to be completed by December 1.

Barns B & C came tumbling down on September 10 to make way for the Jim Hosch Arena. The new structure will be 60'x200' and will accommodate approximately 240 livestock exhibits.
