Clayton County Dairy Quiz Bowl Teams Place 3rd in State Contest

Both Clayton County’s junior and senior dairy quiz bowl teams placed third in the annual Iowa 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Contest held June 16 in Oelwein. Twenty-seven senior, 22 intermediate and 26 junior youth participated in the Dairy Quiz Bowl. The scores of a written exam, team questions and toss-up competition combined to determine the winners of each match in this double elimination event.

Golf Tournament Raises Money for 4-H

75 golfers participated in the first annual Clayton County 4-H Foundation 2 Person Best Shot Golf Tournament. The tournament was held Saturday, June 13 at the Elkader Golf & Country Club. Money raised will be put into the Clayton County 4-H Foundation Endowment Fund.

Variety of Day Camps Offered for Summer 2009

The Clayton County Extension Service is sponsoring a variety of educational and fun summer day camps for Kindergarten 6th grade youth. All camps are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. ISU Extension day camps give children an opportunity to participate in activities suited for their developmental age and to experience hands-on learning.

Safety Day Held May 8

The Clayton County Extension Service hosted a Safety Day on May 8th at the Clayton County Fairground in National. 244 fourth grade students from Elkader Central, MFL MarMac, Clayton Ridge, Ed-Co, Valley, and Postville schools attended the daylong event.

Youth Enjoy Lock-In

The 4-H Lock-in was held March 20 at Hoffman Hall. 69 youth along with 16 County Council members and 6 adults enjoyed an evening full of food, friends and FUN!

Annual 4-H Brunch a Huge Sucess

Over 850 people attended this year's 4-H Omelet Brunch. This annual event is sponsored by the 4-H County Council as a fundraiser for the county 4-H & Youth program. The Extension 4-H & Youth Committee also held a silent auction. Proceeds from the auction help pay the state 4-H youth development fee and fund county youth events.

Pajama Jam Held February 28

96 K-3rd graders attended the annual Clover Kid Fun Day on February 28 at Johnson's Reception Hall in Elkader. This year's theme wa "Pajama Jam".

4-H Bowling Tournament Held February 15

Teams from the Lodomillo Leaders and Marion Happy Hustlers 4-H clubs won the annual Clayton County 4-H Bowling tournament on February 15. 70 youth from 8 clubs competed in the tournament.

Ground Breaking Ceremony Held at Fairgrounds for New Barn

Members of the Jim Hosch family, the executive committee of the Clayton County Fairboard and the building contractor broke ground on October 15 for the James Hosch Arena. The new facility will be 60' x 200' and is scheduled to be completed by December 1.

4-H is for Everyone

4-H is made up of a community of young people across America who are learning life skills and are supported in this developmental process by caring adult leaders. Youth K-12th grade may join 4-H.

4-H Volunteers Honored at Annual Banquet

4-H club leaders and youth committee members were honored at an Appreciation Banquet on January 18 at Johnson's Reception Hall in Elkader. The County Council hosts the annual event.

Northeast Iowa 4-H & FFA Rabbit Workshop

On Saturday March 7, 2009 the annual Northeast Iowa 4-H/FFA rabbit workshop was held. Over 140 4-H and adults attended the rabbit seminars and the FSQA session at the Strawberry Point Civic Center.
