Annual Clover Kid Day to be Held February 25

Clayton County 4-H will hold its annual Clover Kid Fun Day on Saturday, February 25 from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm at Johnson's Reception Hall in Elkader. This year's theme is “It’s a County Fair!” The fun and educational day will be filled with crafts, games, music and food Pre-registration is required. Open to all kindergarten - 3rd grade students.

Pajama Palooza –A night of fun and community service!

The 4-H Green Team is hosting “Pajama Palooza” on Friday, February 24 from 7-10 pm at Johnson's Reception Hall in Elkader. Open to all 4th-6th graders. We will be collecting NEW pajamas for the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. The Green Team has a variety of activities planned. Join us for an evening of food, fun and friends!

4-H Omelet Brunch & Silent Auction to be Held March 11

The annual 4-H Omelet Brunch & Silent Auction will be Sunday, March 11 at Johnson’s Reception Hall in Elkader. Serving will be from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $6.00 in advance and $7.00 at the door. This event is sponsored by the 4-H County Council & Extension Youth Committee. Proceeds will be used to maintain & promote 4-H & Youth activities in Clayton County.

4-H Lock-In Will Be March 23

The Clayton County 4-H Lock-In will be held at Hoffman Hall in Prairie du Chien, Wis. on Friday, March 23, 2012 starting at 7:30 p.m. until 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning, March 24. This event is for youth in grades 6, 7 & 8. 4-H members are encouraged to invite a friend from 6th, 7th or 8th grade. Pre-registration is required and due to the Extension Office by March 15.

NE Iowa 4-H Exhibit Judges’ Training to be Held February 25

4-H Exhibit Judges’ training will be held on Saturday, February, 25, 2012 in Independence, Iowa at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The training is designed for individuals with an interest in becoming a 4-H judge, along with updating current 4-H judges. Participants who complete training are eligible to be included on the Iowa 4-H judges’ database and judge county fairs and 4-H events in their respective project area.

4-H Citizenship Presentation on Justice

Chickasaw County Attorney, Pat Wagman, was the guest speaker at the December 4, 2011 4-H Citizenship Presentation Topic. Mr. Wagman began his presentation with the famous quote, “Justice without force is powerless; force without justice is tyrannical.” Chickasaw, Clayton & Fayette County 4-H’ers are participating in educational programs leading up to their trip to Washington DC in 2012.

4-H Celebrates Youth & Adult Accomplishments at Pizzazz Night

Nearly 400 people attended the annual 4-H Pizzazz Night on Sunday, November 20 at Johnson’s Reception Hall in Elkader. The evening started off with the annual spaghetti supper followed by the awards program. The year-end celebration honored both 4-H club members and adult volunteers.

4-H Teen Leaders Attend Regional Training

4-H County Council members recently attended a regional training by Iowa State University Extension & Outreach. Teen leaders from Allamakee, Chickasaw, Clayton, Howard, Fayette and Winneshiek counties participated in the conference.

4-H Brunch & Silent Auction Raises Funds for 4-H County Program

Over 780 people attended the annual Clayton County 4-H Omelet Brunch on Sunday, March 13 at Johnson's Reception Hall in Elkader. This annual event is sponsored by the 4-H County Council as a fundraiser for the county 4-H & Youth program. The Extension 4-H & Youth Committee also held a silent auction. Proceeds from the auction help pay the state 4-H youth development fee and fund county youth events.

44 youth and adults from Clayton, Fayette and Chickasaw counties visted the state capitol in Des Moines on March 8. They toured the capitol and visited with their legislators.

Nearly 700 Iowa 4-H youth, families and friends cheered on the Iowa State University Women’s Basketball team during 4-H Day at Hilton Coliseum. The fourth annual event attracted 4-H’ers from throughout the state.
Parent-Child Cell Phone Debate Continues

Parents can exert a measure of control over their child’s mobile phone use by limiting use, checking its contents and using it to monitor the whereabouts of their offspring. However, with a few exceptions, these activities by parents do not seem to impact patterns of cell phone use by teens, according to Iowa State University Extension and Outreach family life specialists.

Iowa 4-H Foundation Announces New Peyton Family Scholarship

Sue and Harold Peyton of Sac County have established the Peyton Family Scholarship through the Iowa 4-H Foundation. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an Iowa State University student in a major related to agriculture who will be a sophomore, junior or senior in fall 2012.
Cass, Decatur, Taylor Counties Add 4-H History Online

Cass, Decatur and Taylor counties have added their 4-H history to Iowa 4-H History by County, a blog detailing the history of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach 4-H Youth Development. The history blog is a partnership of the Iowa 4-H program and the Iowa 4-H Foundation.

Donate Grain and Invest in Iowa’s #1 Crop: Youth

By donating grain, farmers can support Iowa’s number one crop, youth, say officials with the Iowa 4-H Foundation. Donations to the Iowa 4-H Foundation can be designated to county 4-H endowments, for statewide use or for both purposes.
