Clayton County 4-H’ers Attend Regional Conference

Nine 4-H County Council members attended a regional 4-H leadership conference in Decorah on September 20. The Iowa 4-H youth development program creates opportunities for young people in all communities to become great leaders, great citizens, and great communicators.

Amy Doeppke Wins State 4-H Dog Award

More than 100 4-H members participated in the annual Iowa 4-H Recognition Day, Aug. 29 on the campus of Iowa State University. Amy Doeppke, Elkader recieved a state dog project award.

Clayton County 4-H’ers Place 3rd in Livestock Judging Contest

With the addition of a junior 4-H division, 106 4-H’ers -- a new record -- participated in the Livestock and Meats Judging Contests on August 29 in Ames. Clayton County finished third in the junior division. Team members included Nick Boehm, Keaton Lane, Kenny Orr and Luke Orr. Kenny Orr placed 2nd overall individually in the junior contest.

"Get Bedazzled" Wins Second Place in Stitch This Contest

In the name of fashion and high stakes prizes, 13 teams of 4-H teens tore apart wedding dresses to create original garments. “Get Bedazzled” team members MaryAnn Gibney, Erin Ott, Miranda Walz and Kristina Walz captured second place when they created a tennis outfit.

County Dairy Judging Teams Do Well at State Contest

Nine youth from Clayton County participated in the state dairy judging contest on August 12 at the Iowa State Fair. A senior dairy judging team consisting of Gina Fisher, Monica Landsgard and Jake Mills placed second and in the junior division the team of Tyler Fisher and Catie & Bobby Lang placed fourth overall.

4-H Members Enjoy Fun Night

The Clayton County 4-H Council hosted a Fun Night for junior members on July 13 at the Elkader City Park. The night was filled with games, swimming, food, dancing and a glow party with glow in the dark accessories.

Safety Day Held May 8

The Clayton County Extension Service hosted a Safety Day on May 8th at the Clayton County Fairground in National. 244 fourth grade students from Elkader Central, MFL MarMac, Clayton Ridge, Ed-Co, Valley, and Postville schools attended the daylong event.

Youth Enjoy Lock-In

The 4-H Lock-in was held March 20 at Hoffman Hall. 69 youth along with 16 County Council members and 6 adults enjoyed an evening full of food, friends and FUN!

Annual 4-H Brunch a Huge Sucess

Over 850 people attended this year's 4-H Omelet Brunch. This annual event is sponsored by the 4-H County Council as a fundraiser for the county 4-H & Youth program. The Extension 4-H & Youth Committee also held a silent auction. Proceeds from the auction help pay the state 4-H youth development fee and fund county youth events.

Pajama Jam Held February 28

96 K-3rd graders attended the annual Clover Kid Fun Day on February 28 at Johnson's Reception Hall in Elkader. This year's theme wa "Pajama Jam".

4-H Bowling Tournament Held February 15

Teams from the Lodomillo Leaders and Marion Happy Hustlers 4-H clubs won the annual Clayton County 4-H Bowling tournament on February 15. 70 youth from 8 clubs competed in the tournament.

Ground Breaking Ceremony Held at Fairgrounds for New Barn

Members of the Jim Hosch family, the executive committee of the Clayton County Fairboard and the building contractor broke ground on October 15 for the James Hosch Arena. The new facility will be 60' x 200' and is scheduled to be completed by December 1.

4-H is for Everyone

4-H is made up of a community of young people across America who are learning life skills and are supported in this developmental process by caring adult leaders. Youth K-12th grade may join 4-H.
