January 23, 2015

Clayton County 4-H will hold its annual Clover Kid Fun Day on Saturday, February 28 from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Johnson's Reception Hall in Elkader.  This year's theme is Buck-a-Roo Bash.  The fun and educational day will be filled with crafts, games, music and storytime.  Pre-registration is required. Open to all kindergarten - 3rd grade students.  Registration deadline is February 16.

Clayton County will offer the Private Pesticide Applicator Re-certification course for pesticide applicators on Tuesday, February 24 at the Opera House in Elkader. Registration begins at 1:00 p.m., and the course runs from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.  Another date in Clayton County  for this continuing education is March 26 at 7:00 p.m. at  Freedom Bank Community Room in Elkader.

The 2015 Tri-State Forest Stewardship Conference is scheduled for Saturday, March 14 at Sinsinawa Mound Center, Sinsinawa, Wis. This is the 21st year for the conference, which annually draws 500 woodland landowners from Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa.

The heartbeat of every farm business is the people involved.  This course is designed to empower farm women to better manage both family and non-family partners and employees.  Women will learn effective strategies to manage human resources in the areas of employee laws, business communications, supervision and retention, and health, safety, and well-being.

Transplant production plays a key role in a successful vegetable production system. Growing high quality plants requires skill, proper care and knowledge of the fundamentals of plant growth.  ISU Extension horticulture specialists will be sharing best practices at a Vegetable Transplant Production Workshop on Tuesday, February 17 at Luther College in Decorah.
