The 2014 Farm Bill changed dairy farm support programs to one that is insurance based now called the Margin Protection Program for Dairy or MPP.  Mark your calendar and register for this fast approaching opportunity for dairy producers.

Clayton County 4-H and FFA members sold a total of $262,776.95 worth of livestock at the county fair auction on Monday, August 10, 2015.  The sale was under the direction of auctioneers, Jerry Maker, Strawberry Point; Jim Funk, Guttenberg, and Mike Monroe, Postville. The average price of 74 head of market beeves was $2.09 per pound.  There were 112 head of swine sold for an average price of $1.71 per pound.  8 head of lambs sold with an average price of $3.50 per pound and 14 head of meat goats with an average price of $3.61 per pound.

Back-to-school transitions can be both exciting and a bit scary for children -- and their parents -- whether they’re preparing for the first day of preschool, moving to a new school or entering middle school. However, there are several things parents can do to help ease these fears, according to Cindy Thompson, a human sciences specialist in family life with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.
