Iowa State University Extension and Outreach offices across northeast Iowa are hosting farmland leasing meetings from July 30 through August 21 at selected locations. These meetings will address questions that land owners, tenants, or other interested individuals have about farmland leasing.

June 25, 2014

Clayton County ISU Extension and Outreach is excited to host an upcoming educational class on safe home food preservation. Cindy Baumgartner, Nutrition and Health Program Specialist and Master Food Safety Advisor, will teach the basics of canning, freezing, and dehydrating food during the two-hour “Food Preservation 101” workshop to be presented from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on July 17. The workshop will be held at the Peace United Church, located at 301 N. Main St. in Elkader.

Join us July 15 at Central School from 9-3 for a Photography Day Camp.  Students will start the day learning basics of  photography, followed by a photo tour by a local photographer and an afternoon of learning Photoshop.  Registration form.

July 9, 2014

Clayton County 4-H and FFA members recently competed in their annual Advanced Cattle Feeding Program on June 16 in Edgewood. Participants entered their cattle into the program in December and began tracking all of their income and expenses. On June 16 their projects were ultra-sounded for market acceptability.  Presentations were given to a judge and to the crowd in attendance and the participants were ranked on their knowledge of their cattle.

County Fairs are serving as the landscape to showcase the NE Iowa Food & Fitness Bike Blender! Youth and adults are using human power to pedal the bike to make tasty strawberry/banana fruit smoothies.  Watch for the bike blender in the next few weeks for the County Fairs! Join the bike blending-taste testing team in NE Iowa!
