4-H and FFA members who are planning to exhibit at the Clayton County Fair are reminded that fair entries are due Wednesday, July 1.    This year’s fair will be held August 5-10 at the Clayton County Fairgrounds, National.

June 2, 2015

It's that time of year again to recruit new County Council members for 2015-2016. If you will be in grades 11 or 12 in the fall of 2015, you can apply for County Council. Council members are active role models in Clayton County 4-H, and they gain valuable leadership and team-building life skills. Make new friends and have fun! The Council is made up of 16 youth and we have 13 positions to fill this year.   Deadline for applications is July 1.  Interviews will be July 9.

Due to high demand we have added another Robotics Camp for K-4 th graders on July 16 in ELkader.  Call the Extension Office for details.

We've got a great new line up of summer day camps this year for kids K-6.  There include Grow Your Own Pizza, Mystery Solved, Take a Hike, Robotics, Ninja Turtle Training, A Day in Ancient Greece, and Fair Funtivities.  Check them out and register today.

Clayton County 4-H and FFA members enrolled a total of 53 lambs and 51 meat goats at the weigh-in held May 9  at the fairgrounds in National.  These lambs and meat goats are now eligible to compete in the market show at the Clayton County Fair on August 7, 2015.   Daily rate-of-gain will be determined on the lambs and goats.  This will be used in the evaluation of the project by the judge at the fair.

Avian influenza is caused by an influenza virus that can infect poultry, such as chickens, turkeys, domestic ducks and geese, and is carried by migratory birds such as ducks, geese and shorebirds.  It does not impact the foods that consumers eat.   ISU Extension and Outreach has resources to help producers and consumers.
