May 21, 2015

The Clayton County Dairy Banquet will be held on Friday, June 5, 2015 at Johnson’s Reception Hall in Elkader. The banquet meal will be served from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.   The program is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or at the Clayton County Extension Office in Elkader.

We've got a great new line up of summer day camps this year for kids K-6.  There include Grow Your Own Pizza, Mystery Solved, Take a Hike, Robotics, Ninja Turtle Training, A Day in Ancient Greece, and Fair Funtivities.  Check them out and register today.  Our first camp starts June 4.

Clayton County 4-H and FFA members enrolled a total of 53 lambs and 51 meat goats at the weigh-in held May 9  at the fairgrounds in National.  These lambs and meat goats are now eligible to compete in the market show at the Clayton County Fair on August 7, 2015.   Daily rate-of-gain will be determined on the lambs and goats.  This will be used in the evaluation of the project by the judge at the fair.

Avian influenza is caused by an influenza virus that can infect poultry, such as chickens, turkeys, domestic ducks and geese, and is carried by migratory birds such as ducks, geese and shorebirds.  It does not impact the foods that consumers eat.   ISU Extension and Outreach has resources to help producers and consumers.

The Annual Spring Field Day at the ISU Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm will run from 1:00 to 4:15 p.m. on June 24.  The program will start with Elwynn Taylor, ISU Extension Climatologist, followed by Matt Liebman, ISU Agronomist, then Antonio Mallarino, ISU Extension Soil Fertility Specialist, and Matt Helmers.  The field day is free and open to the public.
