Summer Staff Position Available - Now taking applications

ISU Extension & Outreach Clayton County is seeking an outgoing individual with great organizational skills to assist with 4-H and youth programs, County Fair activities, community day camps and other summer programs. A full job decription can be found here.
 
Qualified applicants need to fill out an application and return it to the Clayton County Extension Office at 120 S. Main St Elkader or they may email it to hloan@iastate.edu by February 12, 2016. Applications can be downloaded here.

Goat Health Workshop
February 12, 2016

ISU Extension and Outreach held an informational meeting on factors affecting Goat Health for goat and small ruminant producers on January 26, 2016 at the Edgewood Locker Events Center. The meeting was well attended despite poor weather conditions. Over 40 goat, sheep, and deer producers from across northeast Iowa and Wisconsin attended.

A workshop for commerical fruit and vegetable producers growing tomatoes in high tunnels will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2016.

ISU Extension and Outreach Clayton County hosted a new 4-H member night on Sunday, January 31 at the Freedom Bank Community Room in Elkader.  17 youth and their parents explored the 4-H town of “Cloverville”.  The event was planned and organized by Extension staff, volunteers and the county 4-H Council.

A delegation of thirty-two 4-H members and eighteen adults will be traveling to Washington DC soon. In preparing for safe travel and fiscal responsibility, the regional 4-H citizenship group met on Sunday, January 24, to hear directly from a 4-H Alumni who has experienced 4-H travels personally.  Susie Anderson, Business Banking Administrator, with First Citizen’s Bank in New Hampton reviewed the 7 Tips for Keeping Safe While Traveling, explained travel money options, shared examples of personal money holders and provided information to secure financial processes in case of an emergency.

January 11, 2016

ISU Extension & Outreach Clayton County will offer the Private Pesticide Applicator Recertification course for pesticide applicators on Tuesday, February 23 at the Opera House in Elkader from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.  and Thursday, March 24 from 7-9 pm at the Freedom Bank Community Room in Elkader. The course will provide continuing instructional credit for private pesticide applicators.
