Field Research

The public is welcome to attend these field days, which take place rain or shine. Most field days held in June focus on crops, particularly corn and soybeans. At these events a variety of corn and soybean management topics are covered, including insect and weed management, soild fertility, tillage systems, water quality, planting dates, crop population, manure management and value-added crops.

Northwest Research and Demonstration Farm

The Sutherland farm is located 11 miles north of Cherokee on U.S. Highway 59 and a quarter mile east on county road B62.

Field Day - June 27th, 9 am and 6:30 pm

Topics for the 9:00 am program include water runoff, weather review, nitrogen management on corn and cellulosic ethanol. The 6:30 pm program will focus on cool season gardens. Plants covered include radishes, beets, carrots, lettuce, collard, kohlrabi, spinach mustard, swiss chard cabbages, broccoli, cauliflower, pansies, pinks and snow, snap and pod peas.
