Iowa State University Extension is launching a new online homebuyer education course, A Home of Your Own. Mary Yearns, Extension housing specialist, worked with ISU Extension Communications and IT staff to develop the course for firt-time homebuyers.
As of May 2007, USDA Rural Development requires first-time homebuyers to completed education from a certified provider to qualify for the agency's rural housing loans. Often rural residents have to drive many miles to attend homebuyer classes. The online course will be a convenient option for many Iowa residents.
This new course is available anytime, anywhere from any computer with Internet access. The cost including the certificate is $45. Computers at public libraries, extension offices across the state or USDA offices are options for those who don't own a computer. More information about the course can be found at /homebuyer.
