Animal Identification Information and Forms

 

Clay County 4-H members intending to bring animals to the Clay County Fair need to have completed and signed identification sheets turned in to the Clay County Extension Office before the following deadlines.

 

 

  • Market Beef (steers & heifers)

December 27, 2007 ~ Clay County Market Beef Weigh-in Spencer Livestock Sales, Spencer

10:00 - 11:00 am - Identify Clay County Fair calves

11:30 - 12:30 pm - Identify State Fair or AK-SAR-BEN calves by tagging, weighing, retinal imaging, and DNA sampling.   (Youth and parent signatures required to nominate calves for State Fair and AK-SAR-BEN).

 

February 23, 2008 ~ Junior Feeder Weigh-in (county only) Spencer Livestock Sales, Spencer - 9:00am - 12:00pm

 

April 21, 2008 ~ Hy-Line Layer chicks - You must be preregistered thru the Clay County Extension Office by April 1st to participate in this class  (county only) to be picked up at Hy-Line Hatchery Office, Spencer - 8:00am-4:30pm. (Office closed from 12:00-1:00pm for lunch) Hy-Line layers should be listed on the poultry identification form due May 10.

 

May 10th 

  • Breeding Beef (commercial & purebred heifers)         
  • Dogs   (copy of current rabies certificate attached)     
  • Horse
  • Senior Rabbits (Junior rabbits that are not yet born need to be included on identification forms as "to-be-born")
  • Poultry  (Intent of county exhibitors to raise broilers needs to be stated on identification forms as “broilers to-be born”)
  • County Broilers must be included on a poultry identification form as "to-be born" 

 

May 15th - Iowa State Fair deadlines

  • * Meat Goats must be identified by May 15th for the Iowa Sate Fair
    * May 3, 2008, 10:00-11:30 am Meat Goat Iowa State Fair verification will be held in the Clay County Fair Swine Barn for Clay County 4-H livestock project members. You must have completed an "Intent to Participate" form and have it on file at the Clay County Extension Office by April 28th.  If no one has completed an "Intent to Participate" form by April 28th the weigh-in will be cancelled. 
  • Breeding & * Market Sheep must be identified by May 15th for the Iowa Sate Fair
    * May 3, 2008, 10:00-11:30 am Market Sheep Iowa State Fair verification will be held in the Clay County Fair Swine Barn for Clay County 4-H livestock project members.  You must have completed an "Intent to Participate" form and have it on file at the Clay County Extension Office by April 28th.  If no one has completed an "Intent to Participate" form by April 28th the weigh-in will be cancelled. 
  • **Breeding & ** Market/Derby Swine must be identified by May 15th for the Iowa Sate Fair
    **April 23, 2008, 5:00-6:30 pm Breeding Swine & Market/Derby Swine Iowa State Fair verification will be held in the Clay County Fair Swine Barn. Market swine verification dates will be held in April 2008 at various sites across the state. You must have completed an "Intent to Participate" form and have it on file at the State 4-H Office by March 17th.
  • Meat Goats, Market Sheep and Breeding & Market/Derby Swine must all be identified at an official verification site

  

 June 1st

  • Broilers showing at the Iowa State Fair request entry form must be returned to the State 4-H Office

 

June 10th

  • Derby & Market Swine showing at the Clay County Fair

Monday, June 2, 2008 ~ Clay County Swine Weigh-in (One day only) 8:00am-noon and 5:00-9:00pm by appointment, call the Clay County Extension Office 712-262-2264

  • Market Sheep & Feeder Lamb Pens showing at the Clay County Fair

Tuesday, June 3, 2008 ~ Clay County Sheep Weigh-in (One day only),  8:00am-noon by appointment, call the Clay County Extension Office 712-262-2264

  • Meat Goats showing at the Clay County Fair

Wednesday, June 4, 2008 ~ Clay County Meat Goat Weigh-in (One day only), 10:00-11:00am by appointment, call the Clay County Extension Office 712-262-2264

  

June 10th

  • Breeding Sheep showing at the Clay County Fair
  • Purebred and Breeding Swine showing at the Clay County Fair
  • Clay County Meat Goats exhibiting at the Clay County Fair
  • Prospect calves Prospect calves need to be identified on the prospect calf form.

 

July 10th
