The regional juried photography contest was conducted during the September, 2006 Clay County 4-H Fair. For the remainder of the year, the top pieces of art are a part of a traveling exhibit. This unique contest sponsored by Clay County Iowa State University Extension (ISUE) showcases the area’s top 4-H photographers representing 20 Northwest Iowa Counties.
Gold, Silver and Bronze medallions were awarded to the top three photographs in each category. Black and white, color, and digital images were judged in a jury process on originality, skill & technique, and personal/artistic vision and style. Award-winning photos were on display in the 4-H Exhibit Building for the duration of the 2006 Clay County Fair. Youth exhibitors from 5th to 12th grades represented ISU Extension’s 20 Northwest Area Counties in this juried photography contest.
The 4-H photography project is designed to help 4-H’ers develop a greater visual awareness of their world, experiment with a new skill that could grow into a career or an enjoyable hobby and develop leadership and citizenship skills as effective communicators.
