If you paid long-distance excise taxes on landline, cell phone, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), or bundled service that was billed for the period after February 28, 2003 and before August 1, 2006 you are eligible for a refund of $30-$60.
Tax payers could request the refund when they filed their 2006 tax returns. You can still request this unique refund even if you have already filed your 2006 return and failed to indicate that you were eligible for the funds. Simply file an amended return using IRS Form 1040X. Use the revised form (dated February 2007) and enter the credit on line 15.
Individuals who do not have a regular 2006 income tax filing requirement can file IRS Form 1040EZ-T. This form should be filed as soon as possible, but is not subject to the April 17, 2007 tax deadline.
More information can be found at IRS website or by calling 1-800-829-3676.
