Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale Training

The Environment Rating Scales are nationally recognized tools used to assess and improve the quality of child care programs.

Environment Rating Scale workshops offer step-by-step guidance for making helpful changes that can make a real difference in the work you do with young children. 

Environment Rating Scale Classes 

Calendar and registration information What does the training involve?
Each workshop series consists of four 2-hour workshops. Workshops are fun, interactive and “hands-on”. Learners will have an opportunity to:

Each learner will receive:

  • ECERS-R, ITERS-R, FCCERS-R, or SACERS book
  • helpful handouts
  • self–assessment form
  • program improvement plan

Credit:

  • 8 hours Iowa Department of Human Services child care licensing credit
  • approved for National Administrator's Credential NAC continuing educaiton units
  • approved for Iowa State University Continuing Education Units
  • Meets Iowa QRS requirements (1 point)
How does this training meet Iowa QRS requirements?
A director or assistant director can earn one QRS point for their program by completing one of the ITERS-R, ECERS-R or SACERS training series. However, program staff are also welcome to attend if there are available openings. Family child care providers are encouraged to attend the FCCERS-R training.

Learners who complete a self-assessment and a program improvement plan have the opportunity to earn additional QRS points.
