Iowa State University Extension delivers information and education that makes life better, healthier and safer for individuals in Chickasaw County.
“Chickasaw County Extension reaches youth, businesses, families, community leaders and lifelong learners through our educational programs and activities,” said Chickasaw County Extension Education Director Fred M. Hall. “It sounds complicated, but it is really quite simple. We bring Iowa State University research to the citizens of our county. With technological advances, we have many delivery methods.”
· Chickasaw County Extension provided the curriculum to more than 1000 youth contacts last year in after-school, in-school and summer programs.
· In 2007 Chickasaw County Extension provided training to certify over 180 private and commercial pesticide applicators in this county.
· Chickasaw County Extension sponsors the Master Gardener program. Last year seven students took the Master Gardeners training and classes are scheduled for early next year. Each Master Gardener will provide 280 volunteer hours giving programs, answering questions, and in service to local historic sites, schools, nursing homes and various community projects.
“Extension professionals can help citizens solve everyday problems from how to get the best loan rate and how to prevent identity theft to teaching club secretaries how to write a better news release,” says Chickasaw County Extension Education Director Fred M. Hall. Business owners and employees, home owners and renters are all invited to stop by the Extension office in New Hampton and see what service we have to offer. Of course, there will be ISU door prizes!
