October 16, 2014

Farmers and landowners will learn about the new programs authorized by the Agricultural Act of 2104 (commonly referred to as the Farm Bill) at an informational meeting conducted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and local USDA Farm Service Agency staff members.  Several meetings have been scheduled across northeast Iowa.

The Northeast Iowa partners will provide businesses with an array of consulting services and workshops aimed at improving small businesses and the local economy. The grant funding will also support ongoing successful programs with local agriculture-based companies in collaboration with the Food & Fitness Initiative, NICC and the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Northeast Iowa schools, students and agricultural producers will celebrate National Farm to School Month in October.  The celebration is designed to increase awareness about the benefits of rapidly growing Farm to School initiatives around the country.  Adopted in 2009 as a way to connect children to agriculture and their food, NE Iowa Farm to School is led by staff of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and Luther College Center for Sustainable Communities.
