Experience Science!

Come along as Chickasaw County 4-H experiences science like never before! Feel the thunder of hoofs while bison run across the prairie. Smell the sweetness of a towering Ponderosa Pine and see wonder in the world’s longest cave!

We will be camping in National, State and Private campgrounds through-out the week. Through this type of travel Youth will be exposed to many areas of science while being active and gaining both team and individual responsibility skills.

Through research, presentations and small group committees, these 4-H’ers will learn leadership skills to become stronger citizens and effective communicators to help them throughout their future.

School teachers, youth organization leaders, informal education professionals, county and regional extension programs, and other organizations delivering STEM educational programs can apply to bring one or more of the nine specially selected programs into a club or classroom during 2013-14.

Course instruction focuses on various aspects of woodland management, including tree and shrub indentification, basic tree biology, land and tree measurements, protection from insects and diseases, tree planting and pruning, wildlife management, timber marketing, and wood utilization.

Several NE Iowa farms will be hosting Cover Crop Field Day tours to showcase the success local farmers have had using cover crops in our region.  Each cover crop field day will include discussions and presentations including area-specific topics such as: no-tillage/strip-tillage systems, rotational grazing or grazing cover crops for livestock feed, soil and nutrient management benefits of cover crops and spring management for cover crops.
