In today's world, food safety is one of animal producers' biggest responsibilities.  With over 15,000 Iowa 4-H'ers enrolled in livestock projects, about 17 million pounds of meat is produced each year.

The goal of this program is to help youth and their parents better understand what they can do to produce the safest food possible.

4-H’ers exhibiting beef, swine, sheep and dairy (both dairy cattle and dairy goat), meat goat, rabbit and poultry at the Cherokee County Fair, Clay County Fair, Iowa State Fair, and AK-SAR-BEN must be certified in FSQA.

All youth in grades 4, 5, or 6 will need to attend an approved training each year.  Youth in grades 7, 8, or 9 will have the option of attending a training every year, or completing a test which will certify them until they enter 10th grade.  Youth in grades 10, 11, or 12 will have the option of attending a training every year, or completing a test which will certify them until they turn age 19.  At the time youth turn 19, they will need to certify in the adult Quality Assurance programs according to the adult rules.
