The Cherokee County Extension Council met Jan. 12, conducting their organizational meeting and first regular meeting of the year. Officers were elected and are as follows: Chair - David Whited; Vice-Chair - Chuck Clark; Secretary - Donna Amundson; Treasurer - Sara Husman.

Farm and agribusiness women are invited to attend one or both of the upcoming ‘Farm Transition and Estate Planning’ and ‘Farm Health and Safety Concerns’ educational evenings hosted by Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach in Cherokee.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach invites Iowa dairy producers to attend the “I-29 Moo University Hot Topics for Cold Days” winter dairy meeting on Jan. 19 at the Sioux County Extension and Outreach office in Orange City. The program will focus on current dairy industry issues and will be led by experts from Iowa State University, the University of Minnesota, the University of Nebraska and South Dakota State University.

Young dairy farmers seeking to improve the production of their cows and fine-tune their dairy business are invited to participate in the winter Dairy Start to Farm series. Sessions are scheduled for Dec. 1, 8 and 15, from noon to 2:00 p.m., at the Campus Center Board Room at Dordt College in Sioux Center. The purpose of the Dairy Start to Farm series is to give young dairy farmers who are within their first 10 to 12 years of farming the opportunity to share ideas and learn about new resources available to them.
