Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host an educational Identity Theft Learning with Lunch on Nov. 2 from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Cherokee County Extension and Outreach office. Identity theft is a major concern throughout the United States, with millions of consumers having their identities stolen each year. It occurs when a person’s personal information is stolen and used without his or her knowledge to commit fraud and other crimes.

Registration is CLOSED for Fall STEM Fest 2016’ hosted by Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) and Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach 4-H and Youth Programs. Fall STEM Fest 2016 is free to attend, and will be held Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at NCC in Sheldon. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. in Building A on the NCC campus, with sessions starting at 9:00 a.m. Lunch and snacks are provided throughout the day, and a public showcase will be held at 2:30 p.m.

College students who just got their dorm room organized this school year will suddenly face the chore of tackling financial aid paperwork for the 2017-18 academic year. This Saturday, Oct. 1, is the new kick-off for FAFSA®, the federal government’s one form for Federal Student Aid. Completing the Free Application for FAFSA® is the first step toward getting federal aid for college, career school, or graduate school.

Thirteen local women recently completed Iowa State University Extension and Outreach’s “Annie’s Project” in Cherokee. “Annie’s Project” is a hands-on agricultural class taught and facilitated mostly by women for women. The focus this fall was risk management, including financial, production, price and market, legal and personal risk.

Gain tools and resources to help others define their financial goals, use credit wisely, manage debt effectively and access appropriate community resources with the “Your Money, Your Goals” toolkit from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach on Tuesday, Dec. 13 and Dec. 20 at Iowa Lakes Community College (Room 114) in Spencer. Course registration ends Friday, Dec. 12, 2016.
