Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach will host a hot water bath canning workshop on July 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Cherokee Middle School in Cherokee. Participants will discover the process of preserving foods using the water bath method. Food safety while preserving will also be discussed, with helpful tips and resources provided throughout the evening.

Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach recently released the schedule for the Annual Northwest Iowa Land Leasing and Value Meetings. The meetings are intended for current and prospective tenants and landlords, and will cover current cash rental rates and land value survey results; how to determine a fair cash rent for 2017-18; effective tenant/landlord communication; strategies for writing and terminating a farm lease; and other ag lease decision-making resources.

Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach will host three Iowa State University Master Gardener Growing Season webcasts this summer in Cherokee. Master Gardeners will gain educational hours while learning about urban tree selection, gardening with youth and landscaping for wildlife. The two-hour webcasts are scheduled at the ISU Extension and Outreach Cherokee County office for July 11, July 25 and August 15.

Crop Scouting Basics for Women is a multi-session workshop being offered to women who are interested in learning about crop scouting basics. This series of workshops will be held on June 8, 22, and July 6 at the Iowa State University (ISU) Northwest ResearchFarm located at 6320 500th St., Sutherland, IA 51058.  The focus will be on crop development and staging to find what is ‘normal’ in order to help identify what is ‘not normal’.

Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach O’Brien County and Sioux County recently graduated 15 local women from Annie’s Project, an agricultural business course offered by ISU that focuses on empowering women in agriculture. The six-session series provided training and resources in five key management areas: financial, human resources, legal, marketing and production. The course enables women to learn from other women who are experts in their field, whether that be crop insurance, livestock marketing or something else.
