Parents of children ages five and under are invited to join “Family Storyteller” at the Cherokee Public Library on Mondays starting March 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.Free books, home activity kits, meals and crafts are all a part of a fun-filled, enjoyable evening. Literacy is a child's number one indicator of academic success. Working with youth on their literacy skills now helps them flourish later in their academic lives. The Family Storyteller method has proven success.

The Northwest Area Education Association and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach invite Iowa educators to learn how to teach the High School Financial Planning Program April 24 in Sioux City. The workshop will feature this curriculum that addresses student hands-on learning in money management, borrowing, earning power, investing, financial services and insurance.

Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach - Cherokee County is offering a food safety training for food service managers on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the ISU Extension and Outreach Office in Cherokee. The program is based on the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe™ certification program and the Iowa Food Code. The class is beneficial for foodservice managers from all areas such as schools, restaurants, convenience stores, child care, senior meal sites and health care.

Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach - Cherokee and Buena Vista are hosting two free pruning workshops and one windbreak workshop on Feb. 21. Dr. Jesse Randall, ISU Extension Forester, will be conducting these workshops and will show how to correctly prune trees using best practices. Pruning will be a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, so participants are asked to dress appropriately.
