Cerro Gordo, Floyd, and Bremer County Extensions would like to tell everyone about the Summer Horticulture Showcase that will be taking place on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at the Borlaug Learning Center (ISU Research Farm) west of Nashua. It is becoming the premier gardening event in Northern Iowa! There will be expert Horticulturists giving presentations on 12 different horticulture related topics throughout the day (10:00 am – 3:00 pm). Participants may choose 4 of the 12 programs to attend. The emerald ash borer (EAB) is an exotic insect that is destructive to ash trees (Fraxinus species). The adult stage causes minor feeding damage to ash foliage. The larval stage feeds beneath the bark and disrupts water and nutrient flow within the tree,

Master Gardener Classes are scheduled to begin here at the Cerro Gordo County Extension office on September 16! Anyone interested in gardening is encouraged to call Cerro Gordo County Extension at 641-423-0844 and register by September 5! Master Gardeners are individuals who have an interest in horticulture, have taken the Master Gardener training offered by Extension, and use that training to volunteer for 40 hours in their communities.
