Schedule for the day:
9:30-10:00 am Registration - coffee, juice, donuts

10:00-10:50 am Keynote Speaker
Susan Appleget Hurst Make Sense With Landscape Design
You know more about design than you think you do!
Create a garden and landscape that you love using the
design 'language' that you already speak. We'll look at
specific design solutions for typical home landscapes,
and also explore landscaping for large areas that are
wildlife friendly.

Participants may choose one class to attend per session from the following:

11:00-11:50 am Session 1

  • Backyard Pruning, Rick Pleggenkuhle, Horticulture Educator
  • Preserving Your Summer, Nancy Clark, ISU Human Sciences Specialist
  • Garden Soil and Manure, Terry Basol, ISU Field Agronomist & John Sjolinder, CerroGordo Co. Director

12:00-1:00 pm Lunch-salad & sandwich
(Registration fee includes lunch)

1:00-1:50 pm Session 2

  • Backyard Pruning, Rick Pleggenkuhle, Horticulture Educator
  • Fruit Trees, Dr. Patrick O’Malley, ISU Horticulture Program Specialist
  • Wildlife Control, Vince Evelsizer, Iowa DNR

2:00-2:50 pm - Session 3

  • Fruit Trees, Dr. Patrick O’Malley, ISU Horticulture Program Specialist
  • Create an Herb Planter, John Sjolinder, Cerro Gordo Co. Director
  • Wildlife Control, Vince Evelsizer, Iowa DNR

The registration fee is $25 with lunch included ($30 at the door). A brochure with the registration form, itinerary, and directions is available at the top of this page. Please call, email, or stop by the Cerro Gordo or Floyd County Extension offices, if you have any questions.
If you are an Iowa Master Gardener, you can receive up to 6 hours of continuing education.

Stay for the Day - FREE TO ALL and open to the public!
3:00-4:00 pm - Tour the Research Farm
4:00-6:00 pm - ISU Demonstration Home Garden Field Day - Cynthia Haynes, ISU Professor of Horticulture, will highlight home vegetable gardening and planting for pollinators.
