Mason City Community Gardens - 2014 Launch

Public welcome. Come learn about your own garden and sign up for a garden plot. Please bring a lawn chair. Parking available in Watertower Park. $5 fee per household payable to Cerro Gordo Extension and Outreach. No fee for those signing up for a garden plot! Register by May 2. Free giveaways! The gardens are located in the 900 block of South Kentucky Avenue.
Plot fees are required before the plot can be assigned.
Make checks payable to Cerro Gordo County Extension.
The fee will cover water and rough tillage costs.

More than one plot may be requested. Do not expand your plot beyond this measurement or into paths or other plots. The plot assignment does not convey any estate in the plot, freehold or otherwise.
Plots will be tilled as soon as the weather permits. Each plot will be flagged with a number. The garden commitee designee will assign plots and notify participants of their assignment. Please list any special needs or considerations for plot locations (i.e. – proximity to another family, etc.), and every effort will be made to accommodate those needs but cannot be guaranteed.
Each gardener is responsible for supplying seeds/plants, fertilizer and equipment. Fencing is allowed to keep out small pests at the gardeners expense. Perennial and unlawful plants are not allowed in the garden.
Each gardener is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of their garden plot. Watering, weeding, harvesting and any other garden related maintenance are all the responsibility of the gardener. Gardeners may arrange for other gardeners to water their plots. Herbicides and pesticides may be applied in powder and granular form and are limited to the approved list (see community garden rules). Please adhere to label recommendations when applying.
Water is supplied by the City of Mason City at no cost if gardener tracks their harvest per instructions. Those not following this request will be assess a fee for water usage. Keys to the water source and shed will be issued and must be turned in at the end of the growing season .
Work to keep the garden a happy, secure, and enjoyable place where all participants can garden and socialize peacefully in a neighborly manner.
At the end of the growing season, gardeners are responsible for clearing their plot of all plant material and leaving the plot as it was found in the spring. Plots must be cleaned by October 30.
