Some of the most successful businesses have started with an idea and a little bit of money. In today's economy, entrepreneurs both young and old are still finding success!

The Be Your Own Boss Youth Entrepreneur Afterschool Camp is for youth in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades who want to learn about how to start their own business and be their own boss.  The program will be held November 4 through the 21 from 3:45 pm to 5:30. Meetings will be held at the John Adams Middle School Media Center in Mason City, Iowa.

The camp will focus on entrepreneurship education and small business development.  Each camper will develop an original business plan and marketing materials for their business.  A business fair will be held on November 21 for the public to see the business ideas and hear the students ‘pitch’ their businesses.

“This will be an excellent and inexpensive way to learn about starting a business,” said Gary Hall, ISU Regional Director.  “Students will learn how to write a business plan, learn from real entrepreneurs, and make new friends.”

The North Iowa Area Community College John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center in partnership with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Cerro Gordo County will be conducting the afterschool camp.

Register at NO charge by contacting the ISU Extension office in Cerro Gordo County.  Call 641-423-0844, email xcerrogordo@iastate.edu, or text Gary Hall at 641-425-3116.

"By the end of the camp, students will be more aware of the entrepreneurs in their communities and the value the small business brings to a rural economy." said Kelley Crane, camp instructor with NIACC.

Ag Ventures Alliance is providing funding for the camp which is facilitated by ISU Extension and Outreach and taught by the NIACC John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center.
