"Dare to Explore" - Eastern Iowa 4-H Project Workshop - Registration extended until April 17, 2015.

Where:    North scott High School - Eldridge

4-H members, parents and volunters are invited to join us for a day of inspiration and exploration.  Cargill will sponsor the keynote speaker John Robinson who will inspire participants to take advantage of all you can, to be a leader, a contributing citizen, and see the value we all hold inside ourselves.  
Nine topics available for youth to learn about:  

  • Communications/working exhibits
  • Food Science
  • FSQA 
  • Horticulture
  • Leadership
  • Livestock Clinic

4-H Overnight Camp - May 1-2, 2015 - Registration due April 17, 2015
  • Join other 4-H members in grades 7-9 from Cedar, Clinton, Dubuque, Delaware, Jackson and Muscatine counties for fun at the Wapsi River Environmental Center in Dixon, Iowa.  You should plan to arrive at 6:00 pm on Friday and will depart at 4:00 pm on Saturday.
  • The cost of the overnight camp is $50 and includes all meals and snacks, overnight stay, fishing, hiking, star gazing, cooking, team-building activities and much more.
  • Space is limited to the first 60 registrants.,  You are not considered registered until you have paid.
  • Submit your application and registration fee by Friday - April 17.

4-H and FFA Horse Clinics - Start May 7th

Clinics start at 6:30 pm at the Cedar County Fairgrounds Horse Arena

  • Arrive at 6:00 pm so you can brush and exercise your horse prior to the 6:30 pm clinic start tim

4-H Photography 101

Time:      4:00 - 5:00 pm
Where:   Cedar County Extension Office
What:     Darren Miller, Director of news media at the University of Iowa Atletics Department will present basic fundamentals of photography from understanding your camera, to programing and formatting photos, to printing images.  Plan to attend and bring your questions about your project and equipment.

4-H Junior Adventure Camp - registration due May 15, 2015

What:     Junior Camp
Who:      4-H members in 4th - 6th grade
When:    June 12 - June 13
Where:  Camp Shalom - Maquoketa
Cost:      $75 per member

Where:   Cedar County Extension Office
What:    As the fair nears,  Darren Miller, Director of news media at the University of Iowa Atletics Department will give advice on photographs the exhibitor has taken for their fair exhibit.  A quick review of Photography 101 will preceed this class.  Open to beginners and advance photographers.

Iowa State University Extension believes that resources are needed for consumers, foodservice operators, students and educators to access research-based, unbiased information on food safety and quality. The goal of the Food Safety Project is to develop educational materials that give the public the tools they need to minimize their risk of foodborne illness.

When it comes to alcohol and substance abuse, trends are always changing.  It can be hard to keep up with all the trends and practices of substance use and abuse.  Most communities want to stop the underage drinking and drug usage to their community.  After attending one of these presentations you will know what is out there, where to find it, how prople are abusing it, and you will have the knowledge to stop it.
