How do I join 4-H?
1. First, you will need to pick a 4-H club that you want to join. There are 17 4-H clubs in Cass County for families to choose from. Take a look at the clubs in your community. Consider where and when a club meets and how that will work for your family. Visit the clubs that you are interested in. Make sure you call ahead before you attend a meeting to let the leader know you’ll be coming and to make sure that the meeting date or time hasn’t been changed for a special event.
2. Once you've selected a club, let the club leader know you plan to join. He or she will be able to provide you with the Enrollment Form, or you can print one off the web. Don't forget to print off the Iowa Youth Code of Ethics and Medical Information Release Form as well.
3. Pick your Projects. All 3rd and 4th grade members must enroll in Discovering 4-H. All 4th grade members are allowed to carry one additional project besides Discovering 4-H. 4-H members in grades 5 - 12 are allowed to carry any projects they choose. use the Pick a Project Paper to help you decide which projects you would like to enroll in. If you need help selecting your projects, call Julie Hering at the Extension Office at 243-1132 or e-mail her at jhering@iastate.edu.
3. Fill out the Enrollment Form and sign the Iowa Youth Code of Ethics. Return them both to your club leader. Your leader will get them to the Extension Office. All papers need to be turned in and signed for you to be enrolled in 4-H.
4. Complete the Medical Information Release Form and return it with your enrollment form.
5. Read the 4-H Family Newsletter! Everything you need to know is in the 4-H Newsletter. The office uses the newsletter as a major form of communication with families.
