The Reach Out Iowa program continues to support service learning projects among our 4-H clubs across the state. For 4-H clubs whose leaders completed the spring 2011 training, funding is available at a maximum of $20 per planning team club member. The funds can directly support the costs of service learning activities. The funds can be combined with other grants.

“I hope to see some of our local clubs take advantage of this opportunity. We have very creative young minds in our program and the value of the education about service learning is so great,” expressed Susan Oliver, Cass County Extension Youth Coordinator.
Here are some Reach Out Iowa projects that 4-H clubs have done:
· The Westside Hustlers 4-H Club in Boone County gave Mockernut Cabin at the Iowa 4-H Center a facelift. Fresh paint, curtains and wall decorations made the cabin neat and clean.
· The Polk County 4-H Intermediate Council learned how to involve other 4-H members around the county and conducted a pet supply drive to benefit the Animal Rescue League and Animal Lifeline of Iowa.
· The Oxford Happy Hustlers learned about the needs of adults with mental disabilities and used this knowledge to develop care packages for them.
· The Adair County 4-H Council held a soup luncheon. Money raised at the luncheon was used to purchase beef certificates and precooked bacon which were donated to 4 food pantries in Adair County.
