June 19, 2014

What can you build from a box of junk?  A STEM event for all local 3rd-8th graders on Thursday, June 26 will let youth build, design and discover.  The STEM at Work day camp will be at the Cass County Community Center in Atlantic and will include a variety of hands-on science focused activities.  Youth will be inventive and plan to create a robot from a box of junk, design a pinball game and explore environmental science.

Multi-Session Series Starts June 12

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach (ISUEO) and the Iowa Beef Center (IBC) are preparing for the ISU Feedlot School to be held this summer at the Armstrong Research Farm near Lewis, IA.  The educational series will include information about numerous aspects of feedlot management including record keeping, risk management, animal health, nutrition, environmental stewardship, and animal handling.

Cass County Extension and the Southwest Iowa STEM Hub are bringing science, technology, engineering and math fun to Cass County.  The “Celebrate STEM” Festival is set for May 22 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Cass County Community Center. Youth and families of all ages are invited to come explore STEM through hands-on learning and investigation.

Birds, butterflies, rockets, frogs, exploration and adventures. What do they all have in common? Summer Daycamps of course! In partnership with the Cass County Conservation Board, we are offering three camps for youth in grades K-2, 3-5 and grades 6-8.

The Cass County 4-H Endowment committee is hosting the annual 4-H Endowment Pancake Supper on Thursday, March 20 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Cass County Community Center in Atlantic.  Chris Cakes will be dishing up fresh pancakes, 4-H members serve juice, coffee and more.  Supporters can enjoy all you can eat pancakes for $6.

Cass County 4-H Clubs would like to invite the public to attend their annual 4-H Mardi Gras carnival on Sunday, March 23 from 2-4 PM at the Cass County Community Center. Mardi Gras includes fun, food, & carnival-type games for kids of all ages. The 4-H clubs have worked hard to put together many great carnival activities for families.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide post-secondary tuition funds to 4-H youth who have outstanding record of 4-H participation and achievement in the Cass County 4-H program and are wishing to pursue higher education. The scholarship is designed to award 4-H youth who have represented the 4-H program in a positive manner.

Families, it’s cold outside!  But the climate inside at winter day camps is wonderful! Registration is now open for Snow Day Camp for children in third through fifth grade and will be Friday, February 14th in Griswold & Monday February 17th in Anita from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM. Contact the Cass County Extension Office by February 7th to register to attend.
