Every day Cass County Extension Helps You Become Your Best.  You can count on ISU Extension for unbiased research based information.  Whether you need information about your family, home, business, community or farm, look to ISU Extension.

During 2007 Cass County Extension:

  • Provided Pesticide and Manure Application Training;
  • Master Gardeners completed 745 hours of volunteer service to projects in Cass County;
  • Reached over 1000 Cass County Youth through programming;
  • Reached 361 youth through our 19 traditional 4-H clubs. This is the largest enrollment in Southwest Iowa;
  • Offered Summer Day Camps in Atlantic, Lewis and Anita to youth in grades K-5;
  • Celebrated 13 years of Speak Out For Agriculture (SOFA) educating youth about career opportunities in the field of agriculture;
  • Provided resources to After School programs;
  • Kicked off a Safety Education and Shooting Sports program for youth.

Cass County Extension Council

Extension council members are elected by the voters of Cass County to serve four year terms.  The nine-member council oversees the planning, preparation, marketing, and delivery of the extension educational program in the county.  Every county in Iowa has an extension council.  Through a unique partnership with Iowa State University and other federal and state organizations, Extension councils provide research-based, unbiased information and education to help county citizens make better decisions.

Summer Camps Available for Cass County Youth

With summer just around the corner, it's time for young people to plan out their summer vacations. Why not include camp in these plans. Day Camps, overnight camps, and conferences are available for youth of all ages.

Country singer Jason Brown of Des Moines was in Atlantic to debut his new hit "We're All in the Same Boat" on KSOM. Brown is the feature entertainment at the Cass County Fair on Tuesday, July 29. The 2008 Cass County Fair runs July 26 - August 1.

SW Area Recognition Results

Thirty-eight 4-H'ers participated in 64 separate interviews at the Southwest Iowa 4-H Recognition Event held in Atlantic on Sunday, March 30. Participants interviews for State 4-H Council, State Technology Team, State 4-H Project Awards, National 4-H Conference, and National 4-HYouth Congress.

4-H Youth Action Committee – Youth and Adults working together

The Cass County Youth Action Committee provides the opportunity for youth and adults to work together in the decision making process that impacts local youth and the 4-H program. This committee consists of an equal number of youth and adult representatives who help with planning programs and developing policy governing 4-H in Cass County.
