Art Appreciation 101 for Young Children
Parents, grandparents and child care providers are invited to the workshop, “Art Appreciation 101 for Young Children” in Carroll.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the ISU Extension & Outreach office of Carroll County in Carroll.
Participants will learn how to introduce and talk to children of all ages about art made by them and others. Example art activities for different ages will be shared.
“Believe it or not, even infants can begin to appreciate art,” says Sandra McKinnon, extension family life program specialist.
“There is value of integrating play and the arts throughout early childhood,” explains McKinnon. “Being creative helps to express previous learning and experiences but also new ideas. Art with children works best when adults share in the discoveries.”
Child care providers are encouraged to register via the Iowa Child Care Training Registry at https://ccmis.dhs.state.ia.us/trainingregistry/. Two hours of licensing credit will be available to providers. Registration is $10 and payable to the Carroll County Extension Office, 1205 W. Hwy 30, Suite G, Carroll, IA 51401 by March 17. For more information, call 712-792-2364. For more information, visit http://extension.iastate.edu/carroll.
