CARROLL COUNTY Farmer, Andrea Irlbeck, directs america’s farmers grow communities donation to Carroll County ISU Extension and Outreach

Farmers Make a Difference in Rural Communities by Directing Donations from Monsanto Fund’s America’s Farmers Grow Communities Program to Local Nonprofit Organizations

The America’s Farmers Grow Communities program will provide morthan $3 million in financial support to nonprofits across the US in 2017. Visit the Monsanto Fund at www.monsantofund.org.

  1. The statewide average for tillable acres of corn and soybeans was down 4.8%, from $230 to $219/acre.
  2. The ISU Survey does not collect rental data for individual farms.The number of responses is the number of individuals who provided information about typical rents across the county. A new question on the survey this year was the number of acres the respondent was familiar with, the sum of those acres was over 1.7 million acres across the state.

Master Gardener Training Available this Fall in Carroll County

ISU Extension and Outreach Carroll to host training sessions on Tuesdays Starting September 26, 2017 to November 14, 2017

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Master Gardener program will hold its core training sessions this fall for individuals interested in becoming Master Gardeners.

The Master Gardener program is looking for people who are passionate about volunteering and gardening. No previous garden knowledge is required. The program equips volunteers to grow in knowledge about gardening best practices, contribute produce to food banks to enhance food security and make Iowa’s fairgrounds and main streets beautiful.

 

Those interested in the course can apply at https://mastergardenerhours.hort.iastate.edu/application-form.php. Applications for the Master Gardener Program are due by September 1, 2017 to participate in 40 hours of Master Gardener training. Training fees are $195.
