Local Highlights

October 15, 2014

Iowa farmers and landowners will learn about the new programs authorized by the Agricultural Act of 2014 (commonly referred to as the Farm Bill) at informational meetings conducted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and local USDA Farm Service Agency staff members. Meetings will be held across the state to explain options available under the new Farm Bill.

December 10, 2014- Carroll, Guthrie and Audubon County Extension offices will host a Farm Bill meeting at the Coon Rapids Legion hall at 6 pm with a meal.  Please call the Guthrie Extension office at 641-747-2276 to pre-register.

December 17, 2014- Carroll County ISU Extension and Carroll County State Bank will host a Farm Bill meeting at the Swan Lake Education Center at 1:30 pm.  Refreshments will be provided.  Please call the Carroll Extension office at 712-792-2364 to pre-register.

December 4, 2014

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach-Carroll County Office is accepting applications for a temporary, part-time Summer Assistant to assist 30-40 hours per week with various office activities from mid May - mid August.  Qualifications include a minimum of a high school diploma, knowledge of 4-H, strong communication and organizational skills, up-to-date computer and technology skills, and ability to work some evenings and some weekends.  Complete job description available at the Carroll County Extension Office, 1205 W US Hwy 30, Suite G, Carroll, IA 51401 or by calling 712-792-2364.  Submit cover letter and resume with references to the Carroll County Extension and Outreach Office by February 6, 2015.  In accordance with ISU Extension’s Child Protection and Safety Policy, a background check will be competed on the selected applicant.  Carroll County Extension is an EEO/AA Employer.

Once again, West Central is pleased to announce a college scholarship program for the children of West Central cooperative members.  Applications are due no later than 5:00 p.m. on January 30, 2015.

ALL youth exhibiting any animals at the Carroll County Fair MUST be certified in the 4-H FSQA program.  All trainings and test will be held at the Extension Office.

Iowans can expand their financial knowledge and skills without leaving home with free online classes and webinars from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and eXtension. The only requirement is a computer with Internet access.
 

Statewide Resources

  • Coordinating education programs and service for beginning farmer efforts statewide and assessing the needs of beginning and retiring farmers. Providing support in financial management and planning, legal issues, tax laws, and many more services.

  • The only statewide survey that collects information on land values in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. Current and historical data available.

  • The Agricultural Marketing Resource Center is an electronic, national resource for producers interested in value-added agriculture. Browse commodities and products, investigate market and industry trends, study business creation and operation, read research results and locate value-added resources.

  • Helping to make agriculture more energy efficient. Tips and pointers on equipment maintenance and operation, farmstead electric use, and fuel efficiency.

  • Works to promote efficient pork production technologies in Iowa, maintain Iowa's pork industry leadership and strengthen rural development efforts.

  • Agricultural economics and business resources to help make sound management decisions for your business or farming operation.

  • In-depth self-study courses and resource centers that provide management education to agricultural producers, educators and service providers.

  • Providing timely, critically objective information to producers, professionals and agribusinesses concerning the application of important developments in agricultural law and taxation and a primary source of professional educational training in agricultural law and taxation.

  • One-on-one financial counseling, computerized analysis of the farm business, and referral to other extension programs or outside services that may be useful in farm financial planning.

  • The Value Added Agriculture Program (VAAP) provides unbiased, science-based information to help establish or expand agricultural-related businesses in Iowa.

  • An educational program dedicated to strengthening women's roles in the modern farm enterprise.

  • Working to develop and deliver the latest in research-based information to improve the profitability and vitality of Iowa’s beef industry.
