AMES, Iowa – We’ve all heard the old proverb, “One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch.” While the proverb applies to things other than apples, it is actually a true fact for several varieties of fruits and vegetables.

This proverb is the premise for an article titled ‘Store Fresh Garden Produce Properly’ by Linda Naeve, program specialist with Value Added Agriculture with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. The article appears in the Summer 2016 issue of the Acreage Living newsletter.

AMES, Iowa –  Corn and soybean farmers, agronomists and crop scouts now only have to carry one reference guide to the field when identifying insects and diseases, staging crops or looking up production-related information. The Corn and Soybean Field Guide, produced by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, combines the Corn Field Guide 2nd Edition and the Soybean Field Guide 2nd Edition into one publication for a more efficient version.

Are you prepared for implementation of the Veterinary Feed Directive on January 1, 2017?Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Iowa Farm Bureau, and the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association are partnering to offer an educational series about the Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD). Iowa State Extension beef program specialist Chris Clark said Iowa veterinarians, livestock producers, and feed industry personnel are invited to participate. 

The program will include a general overview of the VFD, species break-outs, and discussion panels featuring veterinarians, producers, and feed industry personnel,” Clark said. “The implementation date of January 1, 2017, is approaching and at this point people may have some specific questions or scenarios that they are unsure about.
