AMES, Iowa – A Calhoun County partnership is among 36 youth groups awarded a 2009 Iowa’s Promise Youth Grant for a community service or community improvement project.
The Garfield Gleamers 4-H Club and the Lytton Chamber plan to purchase, place and maintain a community marquee sign placed along Highway 20 in Lytton to advertise community events. Kayla Degner, Lytton, is the project chair.
Grants to youth groups up to $250 were awarded by the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service, in partnership with Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development. Outgrowths of the 1998 Iowa Summit Initiative, these grants emphasize involvement of young people in volunteer service to their community.
