Recent news has revealed that a Department of Veterans Affairs staff member took information on a disk drive home to work on a project, without authorization.  The disk drive was stolen May 3 from the staff member's Maryland home.  Of 276,000 Iowa veterans, the Veterans Affairs Department believes that 50,000 to 75,000 Iowans could be affected.

Dr. Schmidt and Mike McCoy knew they had information that could help Iowa veterans learn about the theft of personal information.

They have donated books to Iowa Public Libraries and Extension Offices and plan to offer veterans a copy of the non-credit course on Identity Theft via CD.  (ISU Extension Continuing Education & Communication Services Distance Education )

For more information or to check out a copy of this book contact the Buena Vista County Extension Office at 712-732-5056 or check out the Iowa State Extension University Extension Continuing Education and Communication Services at http://www.lifelearner.iastate.edu/.
