Health is not just the absence of disease, it is a lifestyle. Additional resources to help Iowans learn about healthy lifestyles are now available on the Iowa Woman’s Health Information Center Web site, www.womenshealthiowa.info.
Two new sections now featured on the website are Healthy Living-What you can do and Healthy Living Over 50. The Healthy Living-What You Can Do section features resources designed to help make healthy lifestyle choices for women and their families. Topics include healthy eating, managing stress, physical activity, healthy choices, and recommended adult immunizations. The Healthy Living Over 50 section features physical activity, nutrition, typical disease issues, and state and national resources. Specific health topics are linked to information provided by the National Institutes of Health/Senior Health.
“As we all work to make Iowa a healthy community, this site is another great tool to help Iowans improve their health and the health of their families,” says Mary Mincer Hansen, director of the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH).
IDPH and Iowa State University Extension co-sponsor the website including a toll-free call center and “live chat” options in addition to providing more extensive web links on healthy living. The Iowa Women’s Health Information Center is an expansion of the Iowa Healthy Families Line at 1-800-369-2229, which has served families since 1993.
The information provided at www.womenshealthiowa.info is not intended for diagnosis or treatment of a health problem or as a substitute for consulting a licensed health care professional. IDPH urges consultation with a licensed health care professional to discuss specific issues.
