Is your child interested in gardening and currently in grades 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th? If so, they should register to take part in the FREE Green Thumb Garden Camp that will be taught by local FoodCorp volunteers this June at the Administration Gardens by the Independence elementary schools.

Using a reference to a national drought monitoring website I was given at a recent Agriculture & Natural Resources Professional Development day for employees of ISU Extension and Outreach, I pulled up the current Iowa drought status as of April 25, 2013. Currently 46% of the state, consisting of Eastern Iowa and extending over into South Central Iowa is out of the drought status.

The latest edition of the Buchanan County Master Gardener's Newsletter, Off Shoots, contains information about growing vegetables and fruits with limited space; regulations on use of the Iowa Master Gardener logo; the April 16th meeting; radishes; planting potatoes; and Iowa Master Gardener's upcoming events as well as the Buchanan County Master Gardener calendar.
