County Opportunities

Upcoming Workshops

  • Island Adventure: A day camp for K-2nd graders that will be held at the Winthrop Public Library on July 19 and 20 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Kids will learn about ocean and coastal life, including otters, manatees, polar bears and whales. Participants will also use maps to study the island and learn about island survival and get to be pirates! Mail completed registration form to the Buchanan County ISU Extension and Outreach (2600 Swan Lake Blvd., Ste. A - Independence, IA 50644). If you need special accommodations; please complete and return the Special Accommodations Form.
  • A Series of Unfortunate Events: A day camp for 3rd-5th graders that will be held at the Winthrop Public Library on July 26 and 27 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Kids will do hands-on activities that teach basic science principals. We’ll explore the science behind inventions, study reptiles, and get creative with projects! Camp is based on the first three books from the book series “A Series of Unfortunate Events.” Mail completed registration form to the Buchanan County ISU Extension and Outreach (2600 Swan Lake Blvd., Ste. A - Independence, IA 50644). If you need special accommodations; please complete and return the Special Accommodations Form.
  • Serve n' Slide: Join youth in grades 6th-8th (2017-2018 school grades) for a morning of service and an afternoon waterpark fun! Cost is $20 for 4-H members. $25.00 for non-4-H members (additional medical form will be needed). Mail completed registration form and payment to the Buchanan County ISU Extension and Outreach (2600 Swan Lake Blvd., Ste. A - Independence, IA 50644). If you need special accommodations; please complete and return the Special Accommodations Form.

 
"Fieldtrips", Retreat, and Camps

  • No "Fieldtrips", Retreats or Camps to register for at this time.

 

Livestock Clinics
  • Dog Clinics: Members planning to show dogs at the county fair must attend 3 clinics hosted by the Dog Committee. Clinics will be held in the sheep/goat barn on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the following days: May 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 & June 5, 12, 19, and 26.
  • Horse Clinics: Members planning to show horses at the county fair must attend 2 clinics hosted by the Horse Committee. Clinics will be held at the Horse Arena from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the following days: June 1, 6, 14, 19 and 22
