County Opportunities

Upcoming Workshops

  • Vet Camp: Will be held at the Buchanan County Animal Shelter on Thursday, April 13; Ages: K-6th grade 1:30p.m.-3:00p.m. Ages: 7th-12th grade 3:00p.m.-5p.m. Space is limited. Register soon by completing and returning the registration form. Mail registration forms to the Buchanan County ISU Extension and Outreach office at 2600 Swan Lake Blvd., Ste. A - Independence, IA 50644.
  • Kitchen Creations Workshop: For any 7-8th grade student interested in improving cooking & baking skills. Workshop will be held in the Consumer Science Room of the Independence Jr/Sr High School. Registration deadline is Monday, April 10. Cost for the 4 week workshop (April 18, 25 & May 2, 9 from 3:30-5:00 p.m.) is $10 (checks can be made out to Buchanan County Extension). Mail registration forms and payment to the Buchanan County ISU Extension and Outreach (2600 Swan Lake Blvd., Ste. A - Independence, IA 50644).

 
"Fieldtrips", Retreat, and Camps

  • Jr Camp: June 16 & 17 at Camp Pine Lake. Registration closes May 26th; make sure to complete and return the registration form by then!

 

Livestock Clinics
  • Dog Clinic Mandatory Meeting: All members, interested in showing dogs at the county fair, must attend the mandatory dog meeting on Thursday, April 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the Theater at Heartland Acres. At the meeting members will receive a handbook with detailed information on what to expect this spring/summer.
  • Dog Clinics: Members planning to show dogs at the county fair must attend 3 clinics hosted by the Dog Committee. Clinics will be held in the sheep/goat barn on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the following days: May 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 & June 6, 13, 20, and 27
  • Sheep and Goat Clinic: Saturday, April 29 following weigh-in at the Buchanan County Fairgrounds (approx: 10:30 a.m.).
  • Horse Clinics: Members planning to show horses at the county fair must attend 2 clinics hosted by the Horse Committee. Clinics will be held at the Horse Arena from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the following days: June 1, 6, 14, 19 and 22
