Extension Coordinates Barn Quilt Project
The Buchanan County Barn Quilt Project is too important of a program to allow it to fall by the wayside so Buchanan County ISU Extension and Outreach has offered to help continue the program. We are looking to recruit individuals to sit on an advisory committee to assist in the leadership of the project. We will also be recruiting other volunteers, in addition to our staff, to design, build, paint and mount the quilt blocks.
I anticipate that once we are established the advisory committee would only meet quarterly. It will take probably three monthly meetings in the beginning to review and renew, if needed, the program guidelines.
Annually the “barn quilt” map is updated with the new sites for a self-guided tour so if you haven’t had a chance to see some of the more rural quilts please stop and pick up a map. We currently have 62 sites with 8-foot square “quilts” on barns, corncribs or other farm buildings . Maps are available at Buchanan County ISU Extension and Outreach office, Heartland Acres Agribition Center, Tourism Depot, Wapsipinicon Mill, Independence Area Chamber, or by contacting our office at 319-334-7161 or firstname.lastname@example.org
