“Families that make a spending and savings plan feel as if they are more in control of their money,” according to Erin Ludwig, ISU Extension Family Resource Management Specialist, “They often find it easier to stretch dollars to get more for their limited amount of money; work toward their goals with the amount of income they have; spend wisely; and set aside a little money each month for savings or emergencies.”
Budgeting Basics, a free 3 hour workshop, is being offered by Iowa State University Extension and Hawkeye Community College. Participants will examine their spending habits and learn to manage their personal finances including ways to manage credit, save money, and track their expenses.
People can sign up for the Budgeting Basics class either from 1-4 pm or 5:30-8:30pm on Wednesday, February 18th at the Hawkeye Community College’s Center in Independence. The afternoon program will include a free snack and evening class will include a free meal.
