AMES, Iowa – Allen Ricks has been selected as a regional extension education director for Iowa State University Extension, according to Jack Payne, vice president for ISU Extension and Outreach.

Anthracnose, a common foliage disease of shade trees in Iowa, is caused by a group of fungi whose development is favored by extended periods of cool, wet conditions as the new leaves are emerging, such as the rainy weather of spring and early summer. Fungal spores are spread by splashing rain and can also be carried by air currents. The fungus seems to have spread very quickly in the last few days with wind and long hours of leaf wetness duration.
