October 7th - 13th is 4-H Week this year we are hosting a 4-H Week Bike Event - October 13th starting at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church parking lot in Waverly, we will be hosting a 4-H Bike Event! Come ride the trails with fellow 4-H’ers and family members, decorate a cookie, drink cider, and have an all-around good time promoting 4-H. Hope to see you there!

4-H Fun Halloween Party - Your County Council will be hosting a 4-H Fun Halloween Party/Haunted Trail October 27th at the Extension Office! Be watching your mailbox for more information and bring your friends for a good time!

4-H Awards & Ice Cream Social - Sunday, January 13, 4-H Building, Waverly.  Come for an ice cream social at 1:00 p.m. and see who got what award!  We will also be drawing for the $25 mall gift certificates!

 2012 Pioneer Grant Information and Applications Now Available!  Pioneer Hi-Bred International is offering Pioneer Community Improvement Grants through the Iowa 4‑H Foundation again this year.  Clubs are encouraged to apply for “seed money” to help them get started on community projects.  The brochure, information, and application are on the web at: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/pioneergrants.  Applications and support letters for 2013 grants are due in the county office on December 1, 2012. 

 2013 Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) - Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) is a ten-day trip for 4-H youth in 10th, 11th and 12th. The trip provides a setting to experience leadership and citizenship in a whole different way at the National 4-H Center.  Youth who have participated in previous trips have returned to report that it has been the single most educational highlight of their 4-H career.   Participants can select either June 7th – 15th or June 14th – 22nd to attend the trip. 4-H’ers and adult chaperone will travel by charted bus to Washington D.C.  Some highlights of the trip are: Lincoln’s Springfield, Gettysburg Battlefield, Capitol Hill, Smithsonian Museums, Mount Vernon and Kennedy Center. Beside tours and workshop you’ll have time for socializing and meeting new friends.  Cost of the trip is $1,420. This includes lodging, transportation, tour site admissions, and most meals.  Registration and a $350.00 deposit will be required to secure a spot. KEEP IOWA BEAUTIFUL ANNOUNCES HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS - Keep Iowa Beautiful is offering up to four, $500 scholarships to Iowa high school seniors in 2013!  Students across Iowa enrolling in an Iowa college or university to major in community enhancement or environmental areas of study are eligible. Through the leadership of Bob Byers, long-time educator, KIB’s  Litter-Free School Campus program was initiated in northwest Iowa in 2003.  In memory of Bob and his dedication to young people and environmental concerns, KIB and the Byers family established the Byers Scholarship Environmental Fund. 

“Keep Iowa Beautiful programs are focused on enhancing Iowa's image through community assistance and collaboration,” said Gerry Schnepf, Executive Director of KIB.  “We seek to improve behavior patterns in our younger generations and reinforce values in older generations that encourage respect for home, neighborhood, community and state,” he added.  “KIB serves as a key resource for educating youth on the importance of respect for the community and our environment.”  This is the fifth year of the Byers Environmental Scholarships.  Awards have been made to sixteen graduating high school seniors for a total of $7,250.
