Certification Training and Testing

All (4-H & FFA) beef, dairy (includes bottle/bucket exhibitors 4-6 grade),

goats (dairy & meat), sheep, swine, poultry, and rabbit exhibitors

MUST be FSQA certified by July 1 to exhibit at 2008 county and state fair.

Watch the 4-H Hotline for training dates.

Members that exhibit beef, dairy, poultry, rabbits, sheep, and swine at the Bremer County Fair and Iowa State Fair must be FSQA certified.   Certification Trainings will be held at least 2 times in the county to accommodate most members and will be set soon. There are two ways that 4-H’ers and FFA members can become FSQA certified.

1.  Attend a FSQA training for youth session – the certification is good for one year, no matter what their age.  (Exhibitors age 9-11 must attend a face to face training every year.)

2.  Pass an FSQA certification test. Exhibitors age 12-18 (as of January 1) may go to a training session each year or use the test out option.  If youth pass the FSQA certification test, their certification is good until they reach the next age category.  If youth are 12-14 years old and pass the test, their certification is good until they are 15.  If youth are 15-18 years old and pass the test, their certification is good until they reach 19 and then must become certified as an adult.

Testing can be done by appointment at the Bremer County Extension Office in Tripoli by contacting Janice.  A study guide is available to help prepare for the test.  4-H Youth are trained/tested by the ISU Extension Service.  Although Veterinarians are partners in this process and may assist with the training, vets can no longer sign certification cards for youth.   If you have any questions about FSQA, please call the office and talk to Janice.
