4-H: An Important Part of Youth Development

Mary Beth Zelle Impact

“I believe 4-H allows me, as my parents did before me, to foster the values we teach to our children - hard work, leadership, communication, citizenship, creativity, responsibility and more.  4-H allowed me to grow as an individual while learning how to work with many people.  4-H is a legacy in my family and my children are the fourth generation to be members.  4-H members are our leaders of the future.”

“We have a son who, after great struggles with certain subjects in school, was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder.  Due to his experiences before diagnoses, he had low self-confidence of his abilities and was not well accepted by his peers.  Thanks to his involvement in 4-H and especially communications at the county and state level, his self-confidence has grown, as well as his ability to speak in front of large groups of people.  Today as a sophomore in high school, he is respected by his classmates, as well as by adults in our community and county.  4-H has given him this boost and the confidence to follow his dreams.”
