Bremer County Corn and Soybean Plot Helps Farmers Make Decisions

“As president of the Bremer County Corn and Soybean Growers Association, my board members and I work closely with the County Extension Agent and his staff in running a county corn and soybean yield test plot.  This is an objective test on how well corn and soybeans perform run by a neutral party, not a particular seed company.  The yield results are posted for all to see on the Extension Service’s web site.  Farmers consider it unbiased and representatives of seed companies appreciate the exposure at our field day.  The planning, execution and credibility of all this is enhanced by our association with ISU Extension.”

The local Bremer County Comparative Crop Plots have been coordinated for nine years through the cooperative effort of Bremer County Corn and Soybean Association along with the ISU Extension – Bremer County Office and plot cooperator Steve Boevers.  This year, over 20 companies submitted entries to the plot, which included conventional corn and soybeans along with Round-Up ready soybeans.  Nearly 175 people attended the field day on August 28.  Brian Lang, ISU Extension Crop Specialist addressed the crowd about this season’s plot tests and environmental conditions.  Dr. Palle Pedersen, ISU Extension Soybean Specialist was the featured speaker.  Yield data will be included in the Bremer County Corn and Soybean Plot Data book that is provided free.  400 copies of the books are distributed annually.
